From the Basement to the Big Leagues, the sophomore album by Xyclone, becomes the first independent project by a dancehall act to top the Billboard Reggae album chart in eight years.
The album, released last December via RSQTHP Music Group, had entered the Billboard chart at 14. In early January, the set rose to 12. Now five months later, after experiencing a sales burst, the album dethroned Major Lazer's Know No Better (EP) from the top spot.
Xyclone's set contains the songs Tell the Truth (Featuring Star Cole), How Yuh Bad Suh, Ambition and Wanna Dance.
The last independently distributed album by a dancehall act to top the Billboard chart was Little Hero's Revelation (released on the Inspire label) in January 2009.
Back on this week's Billboard Reggae chart, Major Lazer's Know No Better falls to number two, while Falling Into Place by Rebelution slips to three.
Good Life by Collie Buddz is down to four, while Ziggy Marley's self-titled set — which won the Grammy for Best Reggae album in February — moves up to five.
Falling to six is the live set by Rebelution titled Live at Red Rocks, while new on the chart at seven. Charting for the first time since its release in 1990 by Mango Records is Best of Jimmy Cliff.Best of Jimmy Cliff enters the chart thanks to a promotion by Universal Music. The 20-track set boasts hits including Many Rivers to Cross, Wonderful World Beautiful People, The Harder They Come, Vietnam, Sitting in Limbo and You Can Get It If You Really Want.
This is Cliff's seventh charting title on the Billboard Reggae listing.
2011's Sacred Fire (EP) and 2012's Rebirth both hit number one.
Fought For Dis becomes Sizzla's 27th entry on the chart. It enters at number eight. Produced by Anthony Senior for Altafaan Records, the 10-track set was released on June 16. It features collaborations with Vershon, Capleton, Gentleman, Mark Wonder, Sugar Cane, and Nakeisha.
Lost in Paradise by Common Kings is down to nine, while Revelation Part I: The Fruit of Life by Stephen Marley rises to 10.
The various artistes compilation Get Soca 2017 falls to 11, while A Dollar Short & A Minute Late by Landon McNamara slips to 12.
Re-entering the chart at 13 is Skatalites: Independence Ska and The Far East Sound Original Ska by the Skatalites, while Wash House Ting by J Boog moves up a notch to 14.
Morgan Heritage suffers a serious tumble as they fall to 15.
